Genna Barr
My professional background is not particularly the norm for a lawyer, but it’s also one of my strengths. I’ve worked in law, commercial banking and also own a 400-cow dairy farm operation with my husband Matt.
These experiences have given me a close understanding of the needs of our business and rural clients. My banking background has also provided inside knowledge of what lenders require, which helps to make your transactions run as smoothly as possible.
I grew up on a lifestyle block in Tāneatua and am proud to call the Eastern Bay home. I gained my law degree at the University of Otago, returning to start my career locally in Whakatāne law firms. Helping the rural community and farming sector thrive is a passion of mine. In 2019, Matt and I won the BOP Dairy Industry Awards Share Farmer of the Year, a programme which provides opportunities for local farmers to learn, connect and grow.
Outside of work you'll find me running around after my kids or on the farm. I also love spending time with whānau and finding a spare moment to hit the gym.
