I’m starting out

If you’ve landed here, there’s a good chance you’re about to make your first big move.

This stage is all about setting up solid foundations for the future with the right documentation and thorough due diligence.

Perhaps you’re ready to buy your first home or investment, starting or buying into a business, or have a new addition to the family.

We begin by getting to know you, your unique situation and what your apogee looks like. From there, we’ll provide personalised advice and solutions that bring you closer to your goals.

Buying your first home

Found your perfect first home? It’s time to get in touch. We can help you do your homework on legal aspects of the property you’d like to buy, provide advice on your ownership options & funding eligibility, and support you through each step of the buying process.

  • Unsure on the process of buying your first home? Get in touch and we can explain. From making an offer, to explaining the terminology, to advising you on the agreement for sale and purchase, our team will make the process as straightforward and enjoyable as possible.

  • Our team are experts at helping first home buyers access Government assistance. After establishing whether you meet eligibility criteria, we’ll support you right through the application process.

  • We’ll talk directly with your bank or mortgage broker to complete the loan documentation and arrange for the funds to be available for settlement. If you are borrowing money privately (eg. from family), we can document the agreements reached simply and clearly to avoid any misunderstandings in the future.

  • If you’re buying your property with someone else, we’ll explain the differences between owning the property jointly, or as tenants in common. If you’re buying the property with friends or family, we’ll help you document important decisions such as who will pay the rates, any maintenance or improvements, and what happens when someone wants to sell their share.

Protecting your assets

As soon as you start to accumulate assets, you need to think how best to protect them. We can advise you on what you need to do to look after yourself, your family, and plan for your future.

  • Every adult needs a Will. It ensures that when you pass away, your family are supported, and your property distributed, in the way you want. We can explain the things you’ll need to consider and prepare your Will for you.

  • Anyone at any age can have an accident or be hospitalised with a serious illness. If you lose mental capacity, you need someone to act on your behalf and make decisions for you. Someone needs to make sure your bills are paid, your children are looked after, and you are being properly cared for. We can help put these documents in place and help you appoint people you trust to look after things for you.

  • If you’re married or in a de facto relationship, the Property Relationships Act applies to you. Even if property is in your name, or you keep you finances separate, you may find that on separation, your assets are divided equally. We can explain how this law applies to your relationship and what you can do to keep your assets safe. Our trusted network of relationship property specialists are on call to help if difficulties arise.

  • Do you need a family trust? Trusts remain a popular way of protecting property and managing assets, but there are ongoing costs, duties and paperwork to attend to. We can advise whether a Trust would be a good idea for you.
